Cansiglio – The Heart of the Earth
A New Step in Gaiocardium’s Journey

On June 14, 2026, Gaiocardium took another important step in its journey.
In the Cansiglio Forest, one of Italy’s most important natural landscapes, a new sculpture dedicated to the relationship between humanity and nature was installed.
The work, entitled “The Heart of the Earth,” depicts a child offering a red heart to the forest.
At the child’s feet are four inhabitants of the forest: a fox, a wild boar, a marmot and a squirrel. These figures are not simply decorative elements of the sculpture. They symbolically support the child and express the interdependence between human beings and all the other inhabitants of the Earth.
Life does not belong to humanity alone.
It is a shared cycle in which every form of life has its own place.

The Heart of the Earth
The red heart is the central symbol of the work.
In Gaiocardium, it represents love, respect and responsibility towards nature.
The child does not take anything from the forest.
The child offers.
Through this simple gesture, the work reverses the usual relationship between humanity and nature: the human being is not presented as a conqueror or exploiter, but as someone who can return to the Earth something of the love and care that we owe it.
Beneath the child, the animals of the forest form a symbolic circle of life. Everything is connected, and everything depends upon the health of the natural world.
The Children’s Hearts
Around the sculpture and along the pathway, dozens of red wooden hearts were placed, created with the participation of children.
On the hearts, the children wrote their own messages for the protection of trees, animals and nature.
The hearts are therefore not simply an artistic element of the installation.
They carry within them the thoughts and hopes of a new generation.
The children’s messages remain on the trees as small signs of care and hope for the future of the Earth.

The Heart Written by the Community
One of the most moving moments of the day was the creation of a special heart for the forest itself.
Representatives of institutions and participants left their own thoughts and messages on the red wooden heart.
The heart was then placed in the hands of the child, symbolically completing the work.
This act gave the installation an additional meaning:
protecting nature is not the responsibility of one person. It is a shared responsibility.
The Message of the Work
The sign accompanying the sculpture carries a simple message:
“A child offers a heart to the forest.”
Around this simple image, the entire message of the work comes together.
The heart represents love, respect and responsibility.
The animals symbolize the community of life.
The children’s hearts carry the voice of the younger generation.
And the forest becomes the common place where all these elements meet.
The message concludes with a simple thought:
When we learn to protect what lives around us, the Heart of the Earth continues to beat.

An Installation Within the Forest
The work was not placed inside a closed exhibition space.
It stands within the natural landscape of Cansiglio, in a place where the sculpture, the trees, the animals and visitors coexist.
The red hearts following the pathway create a dialogue between art and the living forest.
The work does not seek to dominate the landscape.
It seeks to enter into dialogue with it.
This reflects one of the fundamental principles of Gaiocardium: art should exist within nature with respect, without exploiting it.
The Cansiglio Community
The inauguration was attended by representatives of Veneto Agricoltura, the Cimbrian Association of Cansiglio, local institutions, the Honorary Consul of Greece in Venice, archaeologists conducting research at prehistoric sites within the forest, as well as many friends of Cansiglio.
Their presence gave the installation a special character.
It was not simply the placement of a sculpture.
It was a meeting of people from different backgrounds and fields around a common place and a shared message: the care of the Earth.

The Gift to Cansiglio
The sculpture “The Heart of the Earth” was donated to Veneto Agricoltura for Cansiglio by the Gaiocardium Movement, through sculptor Manolis Thomakakis, in 2026.
With this installation, Gaiocardium continues to create a network of works, places and people connected through art.
Each new installation becomes another pulse of this great shared heart.
The Heart of the Earth Continues Its Journey
Following Gournes in Crete, Astakos in Xiromero, Marousi in Athens and the new actions that continue to develop, Cansiglio becomes another important milestone in Gaiocardium’s journey.
A child offers a heart.
A forest receives it.
The animals stand beside the child.
And the children’s hearts remain on the trees.
Thus, art becomes an act of offering.
And the Heart of the Earth continues to beat.
